Boisson Alcohol-Free Beverages
Over the last few years, Americans have been drinking less. Only 60% of adults reported that they drank in 2022, compared to 65% in 2019. Retailer Boisson has emerged to help non-drinkers, the sober-curious, and everyone else find a new favorite beverage. The store (currently in New York and Los Angeles) offers a variety of low-ABV and alcohol-free beverages that still feel decidedly adult. One tipple replicates bourbon, with the characteristic burn in the throat coming from capsaicin, the compound active in chiles.
Boisson does not yet have a sustainability program, but does offer a number of brands doing good work. B Corp Thomson & Scott makes an organic, vegan, sparkling, zero-proof Chardonnay. The Giesen Taster Pack Bundle includes two whites and a rosé from an organic vineyard in New Zealand. Woman-owned, California-made Joyus makes wonderfully delicious sparkling dealcoholized wines. Parch makes adaptogenic mocktails using organic, sustainably sourced blue agave; their Prickly Paloma says it will “inspire a wakeful sense of calm.” All in all, there’s a lot of fun to be had in exploring this growing arena.
