Package Free Shop
In our opinion, a package-free store works best in a car town, where consumers can easily transport empty and then full containers of olive oil, rice, and detergent. The model simply doesn’t work as well online. Marketplace Editor Elizabeth says: think of the Package Free Shop as a digital marketplace for green household items, rather than getting hung up on the “package free” part of the equation. Almost all items have some packaging, including cosmetics with hard-to-recycle pumps and nozzles. But, Package Free does have some useful, minimally packaged goods on offer. Bluedot’s Associate Editor Lily Olsen recently ordered bar dish soap, copper scrubbers, and a scrub brush. She reports that the items are good quality and says “it’s nice to have kitchen products without plastic.”
