American Blossom Linens
Bluedot’s marketplace editor, Elizabeth, has for years dreamt of finding sheets like the ones her grandmother used to make the bed. The thick, cotton sheets were heavy, smooth but not shiny, and had real weight to them. Today, bedding trends seem to be leaning towards super lightweight sheets similar in texture to a men’s dress shirt; even the percale sheets strike her as too shiny. Elizabeth has one remaining pillowcase, several decades old, that she’s taken to multiple department stores and fine linen shops. Everyone has told her the same thing: “No one makes sheets like that anymore. And if they do, we don’t sell them here.” Recently, though, Elizabeth got lucky: she clicked on an online ad and ordered a set of pillowcases for a test-sleep. The new pillows were closer to grandma’s than any she’d ordered yet. The brand: American Blossom Linens.
Based in Georgia, American Blossom makes beautiful, luxurious linens the old-fashioned way. The company uses long-staple cotton fibers to make its 180-thread-count percale sheets. (If that number sounds small, you can read more about artificial thread-count inflation here.) Elizabeth has been delighted by her new pillowcases, which are soft yet crisp, and have a real heft to them. The thread count allows air to move through the material, keeping the pillowcases cool. So far, they just keep getting better with every wash, and she plans to buy a full set soon.
What makes American Blossom truly stand out, aside from the fact that we really like the product, is how and where its items are made. American Blossom not only manufactures all of its items in the United States, but also does so using only American-grown, American-milled cotton. A fully American supply chain like this has gotten rarer and rarer over the years, and it’s worth celebrating. Like one of our other favorite American brands, Harvest & Mill, American Blossom offers natural, undyed heirloom cotton, which is a beautiful color. You can even order swatches for $2 if you’d like to see and feel the textiles for yourself. In addition to bed linens, American Blossom offers towels, bedspreads, and wool pillows and duvets, all American-made. The sheets include a mix of organic and conventionally grown cotton, all grown by members of the sustainability organization U.S. Cotton Trust.
American Blossom’s sheets sets cost $319 and up for a queen set with four pillowcases. Flat and fitted sheets can also be bought separately. To score American Blossom Linens for less, you have two options. The Renewed collection consists of gently used, returned, and fully-sanitized products. The Irregular collection includes brand new items with slight manufacturing defects, such as imperfect stitching. While these items are final sale, American Blossom offers an impressive two-year return policy on all regularly priced items.
